During March, schools around the world are celebrating the joys of reading for World Book Week. It is a week of showing appreciation for favourite books, plays, poems, stories, characters, and writers to promote reading and the importance of books.

With costumes, decorations and literature forward activities - it's great fun for everyone! Of course, we will join in the Book Week festivities in true Network International School style and this year will feel particularly special as we are able to celebrate on-campus.

Research shows that reading stimulates the part of the brain that allows children to understand the meaning of language and helps build key vocabulary, literacy and social skills. It allows us to be transported from our own world to another. Between the pages of a book, we can become immersed in the lives of fictional characters and learn about a culture entirely different from our own. We can also learn new words and phrases, experience a range of emotions, and acquire skills and knowledge that can be used throughout their lives.

In addition to this, sharing stories is a great way to enjoy time together and help children build a love of reading for pleasure. Reading is not only about having fun but also benefiting children's future education.

By promoting literacy and a love of reading, Book Week helps to set students on a path towards success in their academic and personal lives.
