Developing a love for books and reading with Book Week 2023 at Network

Book Week at Network International School Yangon was an exciting event that took place from February 27th to March 3rd. Students from the Early Years to Sixth Form were immersed in a world of literary adventures, participating in various engaging activities that celebrated the joy of reading and ignited their imaginations.

The week kicked off with a buzz of excitement with many fun activities such as the Book Fair, Spelling Bee, Lunchtime Science Experiments, Book Week Photobooth, and Reading Programme at The School for The Blind.

One of the most thrilling activities was the 'unusual reading places' photo competition. Students were challenged to find unique and unconventional spots to enjoy their favourite books. 

Book Week also featured various competitions that tested students' language skills and creativity. Spelling bees, short story and poetry writing contests, and the 'Legends on Film' competition provided opportunities for students to showcase their talents and compete in a friendly environment. These activities not only honed their literary abilities but also fostered a sense of healthy competition and camaraderie among participants.

The pre-launch activities leading up to Book Week were equally captivating. Parents were invited to a special reading morning, where they had the opportunity to share the joy of reading with their children. Reading workshops provided valuable insights and tips to parents and students, emphasising the importance of reading in their overall development.

Parents' active involvement in the Reading Workshops and Teddy Bear Picnics was commendable. Their support and participation highlighted the importance of parental engagement in cultivating a love for reading in children.

The Early Years Foundation Stage concluded Book Week with a vibrant and colourful costume parade. Our little bookworms dressed up as their favourite characters, exuding creativity and imagination. From classic fairy tales to modern-day superheroes, the parade was a testament to the power of literature in inspiring young minds.

Similarly, the Primary School celebrated Book Week with an unforgettable costume parade. Students put their hearts into crafting costumes that brought their favourite book characters to life. The dedication and effort put forth by parents in helping their children with their costumes and attending the reading workshops showcased the collective commitment to fostering a lifelong love for reading.

The Secondary School Book Week witnessed the culmination of the highly-anticipated Spelling Bee. After weeks of intense competition, Rebekah and Lynn emerged as the champions in KS3 and KS4/5 categories. The "Challenge the Teacher" activity proved that the House student representatives were more than capable of outshining their teachers in a battle of wits.

World Book Day added an extra touch of enchantment to the Secondary School with students' and staff creative costumes. The diversity of characters celebrated during this event showcased the collective love for books and reading within our school community.

The success of Book Week was a result of the dedication and hard work of everyone involved. Teachers, staff, parents, and students came together to create an unforgettable experience that emphasised the importance of reading, fostering the love for books and lifelong learning.
