Safeguarding
Keeping children safe is everyone's responsibility.
At Network International School, we are committed to providing a caring environment where every child feels safe, protected, secure, valued and respected.
Safeguarding means protecting children from abuse, neglect, exploitation and other forms of harm, while promoting their physical and emotional wellbeing. It includes child protection, bullying, online safety, health and safety, appropriate medical care, site security and the conduct of adults working with children.
We recognise that children can experience harm at school, at home, in the wider community or online, and that safeguarding concerns can involve adults or other children.
What we do
We have clear systems for identifying, reporting and responding to safeguarding concerns. These include:
- trained Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSLs) across EYFS, Primary and Secondary
- safeguarding training for all staff and appropriate checks before adults work with children
- clear procedures for responding to concerns about children or adults
- support for children who may need additional help
- systems for responding to bullying, child-on-child abuse, sexual harassment and harmful sexual behaviour
- age-appropriate teaching about relationships, consent, respect and online safety
- filtering and monitoring of school IT systems
- close attention to attendance, wellbeing and children who may be particularly vulnerable
- working with parents and, where necessary, external agencies to protect children. SafeguardingAndChildProtection2…
What parents need to know
You do not need to be certain that something is wrong before raising a concern.
If you are worried about the safety or wellbeing of your child or another child, please tell us. A concern might relate to:
- changes in behaviour, mood or attendance
- bullying or discrimination
- physical, emotional or sexual harm
- neglect or concerns about care
- online activity or cyberbullying
- harmful behaviour between children
- inappropriate sharing of images
- exploitation or contact with unsafe adults
- self-harm or other concerns about a child's wellbeing.
A concern does not need to be proven before it is shared. The school will assess the information and decide what action is appropriate.
If your child tells you something
Listen calmly and take them seriously. Reassure them that they have done the right thing by telling you.
Please do not investigate the situation yourself or promise to keep it secret. Contact the safeguarding team so that the appropriate staff can assess the concern and decide what support or action is needed.
The school will handle safeguarding information sensitively and share information only where necessary to protect a child. In some circumstances, information may need to be shared with appropriate professionals or agencies without consent.
Children can speak up
Children can talk to any member of staff, their class teacher/form tutor, Head of Key Stage or school nurse. They can also contact the safeguarding team directly.
We want children to know:
You will be listened to.
You will be taken seriously.
It is not your fault.
The school does not dismiss concerns about bullying, child-on-child abuse or harmful behaviour as "just banter" or "part of growing up". All such concerns are taken seriously.
Online safety
Online safety is an integral part of our safeguarding approach. We teach children about online risks and maintain filtering and monitoring systems on school IT networks.
We ask parents to work with us in helping children stay safe online, including talking regularly about content, contact, conduct and commerce. This also includes the responsible use of generative AI and the risks associated with AI-generated images and other content.
