Network International School takes part in the Model United Nations

This weekend 6 pupils from Network went to the International School of Yangon to take part in the Model United Nations conference. Precious from year 11, Yu Waddy Aung, Thyn Syt Nyein, Naomi Kipfer, Han Yin and Glenda all from year 10 attended the conference Friday 16th- Sunday 18th March and embraced the challenge of a grueling schedule, giving up their weekend free time to debate. Due to unfortunate circumstances the pupils were left with little time to prepare for the event. Regardless of this fact the students represented Network outstandingly and were a credit to the school. The conference is open to all international schools in Yangon and also AIS traveled up from Mandalay to compete.

The Model United Nations is a replica of the United Nations and the pupils wrote resolutions to resolve the current issues that the United Nations is dealing with. They lobbied, merge and debated to pass resolutions to solve the world’s problem.

Year 11s Precious instantly embraced the experience, learnt incredibly quickly and formed fantastic questions which she challenged fellow delegates with. Han Yin was in a committee on her own liaising with experienced delegates senior to herself and yet still managed to face the challenge confidently and contribute constructively. Yu Waddy also faced the challenge with style and ease. As part of a dual delegation she helped solve the world’s problems with diplomacy and decorum. It was an honor to see how Glenda responded to the challenge with a smile on her face and ease of interaction, making friends along the way. It was particularly impressive how Naomi, a dedicated and conscientious student, overcame the challenges of an intimidating situation and applied herself to succeed. Thyn Syt handled the challenge with style. Not fazed by the situation he make an unprecedented contribution to a committee of experienced delegates, it was in no way apparent that this was his first conference. Network can rest assured that the world and its problems have a hopeful future with pupils such as these creating solutions.
