The Early Years Foundation Stage has ten purpose built classrooms designed to support high quality teaching and learning and the delivery of an outstanding education. Foundation 1 has four classrooms and Foundation 2 and 3 have three classrooms each. Foundation 1 classrooms are all on the ground floor and have immediate level access to the outside educational space and each room has its own toilet and washbasin facilities. In Foundation 2 and 3 the classrooms and outdoor space are equipped to follow up from the learning in Foundation 1 and there is also a library and ICT provision.
Each Foundation Stage classroom is organised to support all the different areas of the curriculum allowing children to access a variety of experiences and learning opportunities during the day. Each day the classrooms are set up to stimulate children’s curiosity, imagination and independence. Throughout the day, there are opportunities for teacher-led activities as well as child initiated learning. In Foundation 2 and 3 group time is a time when children will be working with an adult in a more formal teaching activity.
In each year of the Early Years phase the classrooms inside are linked by sliding doors as part of the school’s vision of ‘free flow’ education. In addition, the Early Years facilities include a hall, which provides space for Physical Development classes, dining and other activities and a twenty-metre five lane outdoor swimming pool.
In the Foundation Stage children partake in outside learning. As part of the curriculum, we are required to use the outside area in all weathers. We have a sheltered area with fans and light to accommodate the extreme weather in Yangon.
During these times your child will have access to essential experiences that they cannot get inside the classroom. The children will have access to water, sand play, large construction, garden, nature, small world play and creative activities. We firmly believe that outdoor explorative play encourages your child’s development.
