Mission Statement

The mission of Network International School is to provide a nurturing, stimulating child-centred learning environment.

We want to ensure that children leaving Network are prepared for the transition into new environments; being confident in themselves, with others and in their work. We foster a motivation for and love of learning that will enable them to face the challenges of an ever changing world.

Children will leave Network having not only acquired key learning skills, but also life skills involving relationships with others, caring about others and the world we live in. They learn from the positive Network environment with all the diversity the children themselves bring into the classroom.

We Believe that:

  • Children learn best when they are in a safe, secure environment which is filled with learning opportunities.
  • Children learn best when they are happy, when they are listened to and made to feel that we as adults value their ideas and suggestions.
  • Learning should be child-centred, with children being encouraged in their creativity and given the opportunity to explore and discover for themselves.
  • Each child that comes to Network has special gifts and that those gifts should be nurtured and utilised in the classroom to benefit others, leading to the whole of Network being a community of learners.
  • Students should be given the opportunity to develop to their full potential through a comprehensive curriculum that recognises different learning styles.

History of Network

Network International School was established by Mrs. Carole Kyaing and her husband, U Kyaing in 1996 as Network Early Childhood Care and Development Centre. Carole comes from England has a background in early childhood education. Her desire was to establish a high quality Early Childhood training centre to promote progressive child-centred education and provide teacher training for local Myanmar teachers and young people with a desire to work with children. Carole continues to work in the role of Director of Network International School.

Our early childhood philosophy of “learning through play” in a secure caring environment has been hugely successful. Network has expanded greatly since 1996. Our original teachers were trained in early childhood work by completing a course offered by an internationally qualified instructor from Yinthway Foundation here in Yangon. We have worked closely with them over the years. Ongoing teacher training and development has always been part of our philosophy. As the school has grown, the training offered has expanded to include courses such as English language, health and safety, special needs and art. Advisors join our regular trainers throughout the year in order to help us not only raise the standard of Network as a school, but for future teacher training development, in order to raise Network up as a learning community always striving to improve and be a centre of excellence.

Our Primary school was established in 2003 with a curriculum based on the British National Curriculum but adapted for the international nature of our students. As the original children have progressed through the school, extra classes have been added.

In the 2010/11 school year Network has children aged from 2 years in our Nursery up to 11 years (Year 6) in Primary school.

In the beginning there were 6 students from 6 different nations, but now Network has over 370 students from 37 different nationalities, approximately half of whom are Myanmar. This rich diversity of cultures, beliefs and backgrounds encourages a wider world-view and the opportunity to share a broad range of experiences.
